Our backpacking trips are designed with the beginner in mind. We have many varieties of trips to choose from. Whether you prefer the Sierra or the fresh coastal air, we have a trip for you!
All backpacking trips include backpacking equipment such as backpack, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad.
Equipment is on a first come, first served basis. To reserve equipment, please call 916.278.6321.
Prices are listed as Sac State Student/Faculty and Staff/General Public. Please be prepared to show your One Card to qualify for student or staff prices.

Point Reyes Backpacking (2 & 3-day)
Come walk on the "wild" side at Point Reyes National Seashore, one of California’s finest and most well-preserved wildlife areas. You might get a magical glimpse of a fox, badger, or possibly a rare albino deer. As an extra bonus, take a walk down to the beach where you can explore the wonders of tide pool life and spot seals or whales.
If you have always wanted to try backpacking, then this is the trip for you since no experience is necessary! The coastal air will be invigorating and relaxing as you pass through a riparian zone to coastal bluffs. Trip price includes transportation, gear, dinners, camping permits, and experienced trip leaders.

Freshmen Trek Wilderness Orientation
Our flagship trip- Wilderness Orientation backpacking is three fun-filled days designed to help incoming students develop new friendships, learn outdoor skills, gain leadership qualities and build community awareness. The adventure begins with team building and bonding activities at our Challenge Center and then travel to the Sierra Nevada Mountains for a unique backpacking experience. We provide all food, equipment, and transportation. Don't miss out on this opportunity!

Grand Canyon Backpacking (Spring Break 2008!)
What an incredible way to spend spring break! Come with us to explore one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. If you have ever wanted to backpack in the Grand Canyon, this is your opportunity. We will hike the 10-mile trail through spectacular Havasu Canyon to the magnificent Havasu Falls, where we will camp. A spectacular day hikes to Beaver Falls and Mooney Falls will be a part of our exploration of the wonders of the area.
Some hiking experience and a moderate level of fitness are required for this rigorous but "well worth the effort" trip. Price includes transportation, guides, group gear, all camping fees, and all breakfasts and dinners while on trail. Space is limited, so sign up early!

Lassen Backpacking (3-day)
Join us for a back country tour of one of the most recently active volcanic areas in the United States, Lassen Volcanic National Park. The park contains a great diversity of landscapes including lush marshes, painted dunes, dense forests, lava beds, and sulfur pots.
We will spend three days and two nights backpacking past several streams and lakes. The intensity of this trip will be suitable for beginners, but backpackers of all abilities are sure to enjoy the great diversity that Lassen has to offer. Price includes transportation, group gear, two dinners, and friendly guides.

Yosemite Backpacking (3-day)
A chance to explore the Yosemite's high country! Hike in 7 miles to the astounding Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, bounded on the west by gentle sloping granite and characterized by steep, broken bluffs on the east shore.
The Hetch Hetchy region of Yosemite is a favorite among knowledgeable backpackers. Deep forests, sweeping granite views and superb fishing and swimming hole opportunities will make it your favorite too! Beginner backpackers welcome. Trip includes transportation, knowledgeable guides, all group gear, two dinners, and entrance/permit fees.

Advanced Alpine Trek (4-day)
This trip is designed for someone who is wanting a little more of a challenge, or who has some backpacking experience under their belt. The destination for this 4- day trip is different every year. Give us a call for more details.
