New Student Orientation Programming

Adventure orientation programs have long been a key element for creating positive transitions for students into college and university settings. In fact, experiential education research shows positive changes even 17 years after participants' experiences. Through freshman orientation programs students challege their assumptions, form positive peer relationships, and enjoy long-term positive effects of the orientation program on their education.

Each year Peak Adventures offers special programming just for incoming freshmen. Before classes begin, we help students experience an intimate community of peers where they can share their expectations and learn about college life through our Wilderness Orientation. Once school starts, we bring them together on a Freshman Rafting trip to build confidence and make more friends. And we don't leave them to the wolves after that. We designed Freshman 4 Pack to give them the opportunity to spend weekends in the outdoors, trying new things and living a full and healthy college life. All of our trips are led by highly qualified trip leads with knowledge of Sac State and a passion for the outdoors. WILDERNESS ORIENTATION
August 23-26
Wilderness Orientation backpacking is four fun-filled days in Lassen Volcanic National Park designed to help incoming students develop new friendships, learn outdoor and leadership skills and build community awareness. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Program Fees: 
The cost for Wilderness Orientation is $170.00.  This includes all equipment, meals, transportation, permit fees and instruction.

WHITE WATER RAFTING
September 11
Start your college life with some wet and wild fun on the classic section of the South Fork American River. We begin on the milder class II section, then paddle through class III rapids such as Fowler's Rock, Satan's Cesspool and Hospital Bar.
A typical day on the gorge is approximately 3 to 4 hours on the water. Trip meets mid morning at Camp Lotus in Coloma and you don't need rafting experience to enjoy this trip. We will teach you everything you need to know. Bring your friends along for an experience you won't forget!

Program Fees: 
The cost for Freshman Rafting is $50.00.  This includes guides and all rafting equipment.
