We have many outdoor excursions for you and your group. Below are some examples and starting points. Facilitated team building can be incorporated into almost any adventure for an additional cost. If you have something else in mind, give us a call at (916) 278-6321!

Official student organizations and clubs at Sacramento State are eligible to apply for DOC funding. 

Peak Adventures can create unique custom offerings. Below are various options. This is not an exhaustive list of locations and activities. Trips can be tailored to your desires and needs.

Whitewater Rafting

Location: Coloma, CA

Group Maximum: 30

Highlights: Lower S. Fork American, beginner-friendly & exciting class III rapids, 1/2 day trip down “The Gorge” on the scenic South Fork of the American River. Major rapids include Fowler’s Rock, Satan’s Cesspool, Bouncing Rock, and Hospital Bar.

Trip Includes: Includes guides, equipment, shuttle, & instruction.

Backpacking

Location: Lake Tahoe Basin / Tahoe Rim Trail / PCT 

Maximum: 20

Highlights: Come with Peak Adventures on this beautiful, beginner-friendly backpacking trip! Explore the Sierra Nevada high country in the Tahoe National Forest. With countless stunning lakeside camping options, this trip has the flexibility to adapt to the group’s ability and interest. Expect approximately 4-8 miles per day. This trip is designed for the beginner backpacker and will provide plenty of hands-on opportunities to learn the basics.

Trip includes: Trip Leaders, Equipment, Transportation, Reservations, and Food.

 

Location: Point Reyes National Seashore

Special Note: (Trip Details Must Be Planned 7 Months in Advance to Obtain Permits)

Group Maximum: 10

Highlights: Come walk on the “wild” side at Point Reyes National Seashore, one of California’s finest and most well-preserved wildlife areas. You might get a rare glimpse of a fox, badger, or the elusive Fallow Deer. As a bonus, take a walk down to the beach to explore the wonders of tide pool life and possibly view seals or whales. If you have always wanted to try backpacking, this trip is for you since no experience is necessary! The coastal air will be invigorating and relaxing as you pass through a riparian zone to coastal bluffs.

Camping

Location: Folsom Lake State Recreation Area – Negro Bar

Group Maximum: 30

Highlights: The Negro Bar campsite at Folsom Lake offers a quick and accessible getaway. Located above Folsom lake, Negro Bar campground offers camping for large or small groups tucked away in the trees. The lake is easily accessible, and day walks down the bike path offer a variety of activities and opportunities.

Trip Includes: Camping Equipment, Trip Leaders, Food, Reservations, And Transportation.

 

Location: Lake Tahoe – Fallen Leaf Lake Campground

Group Maximum: 30

Highlights: Located in Lake Tahoe, the Fallen Leaf Campground offers a forest getaway for almost any size group. The campground is a hop away from Lake Tahoe, and day activities are plentiful. Whether you’re looking for a day filled with team building, hiking, or relaxing, the Fallen Leaf Campground can work for you.

Trip Includes: Camping Equipment, Trip Leaders, Food, Reservations, And Transportation.

 

Location: Samuel P. Taylor (West Marin County) 

Group Maximum: 50

Highlights: On this camping trip, take in the scenic diversity of Northern California’s coastal redwoods. Unplug and reconnect as we spend the weekend camping under ancient redwoods. Enjoy daily doses of nature among giant trees and starry skies. Mingle around evening campfires, explore, and de-stress.

Trip Includes: Camping Equipment, Trip Leaders, Food, Reservations, And Transportation.

Day Hikes / Snowshoe Hikes

Location: Point Reyes National Seashore 

Group Max: 30

Highlights: Hike along the bluffs overlooking the coast. Breathe in the fresh ocean air as you take in the sights around the park. Point Reyes National Seashore boasts some of the most magnificent wildlife west of Sacramento. Keep your eyes open for a bobcat, falcon or even a sea otter. Before heading back to our trailhead, bury your toes in the sand.

Trip includes: Trip Leaders and Transportation.

 

Location: Lake Tahoe Rubicon Trail

Group Max: 30

Highlights: Experience the fresh air and epic Lake Tahoe views while hiking in D.L. Bliss State Park. Located on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, this hike hosts some of Lake Tahoe’s best trails. Destinations may include Balancing Rock, Rubicon Point, and the highest lighthouse in the United States. If weather and snowpack permit, we may have the opportunity to try snowshoeing! Be sure to pack your camera!

Trip includes: Trip Leaders, Transportation, and Snowshoes (If Needed).

 

Location: Castle Peak

Group Max: 30

Highlights: Gradually ascend past brilliant meadows and through old pine forests for a breathtaking view at Castle Pass. This trip may then descend to Basin Meadow and the Peter Grub Hut before returning back to the trailhead. Depending on weather and trail conditions, there may be the opportunity to climb the steep rocky trail to the summit of Castle Peak, where on a clear day, you can see all the way to Lake Tahoe. If weather and snowpack permit, we may have the opportunity to try snowshoeing!

Trip includes: Trip Leaders, Transportation, and Snowshoes (If Needed).

Urban Bike Trips

Mural Bike Ride (Half Day)

Location: Downtown/Midtown Sacramento

Group Maximum: 8

Highlights: Join us for a ride as we check out some of the nationally recognized murals and street art of Sacramento on this group ride.

Trip includes: Bikes, Helmets, and Trip Leaders.

 

Golden Gate Bike Ride (Full Day)

Location: San Fransisco

Group Maximum: 8

Highlights: Explore Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on this urban biking adventure! We will check out what the city offers, like beautiful gardens, lakes, the beach, and historic sites, as we ride around San Francisco—activity level 1. The minimum age is 18 or a current Sac State student.

Trip includes: Transportation, Bikes, Helmets, and Trip Leaders.

Specialty

Cave Exploring (Full Day)

Location: Angel’s Camp 

Group Maximum: 20

Highlights: Explore undeveloped caves without built-in electricity, walkways, or stairs. Prepare to get muddy! On this trip cavers will crawl through tight cave entrances that open into large caverns. These caves are delicate ecosystems and have formations and deposits that have been forming for thousands of years.

Trip includes: Trip Leaders, Transportation, Headlamps, and Helmets.

 

Urban Trip – Apple Hill & Cider Tasting (Half Day)

Location: Camino, CA 

Group Maximum: 30

Highlights: Come with us on a Peak Adventures apple-tasting adventure. Taste a wide variety of apple desserts, pastries, cider, apple juice, and more! We may visit locations such as Rainbow Orchards, Delfino Farms, Jack Russell Brewery, and more. If you enjoy fall colors, relaxing hikes, pastries, or apples, you will enjoy this fun and relaxing trip.

Trip Includes: Trip Leaders, Transportation, and $15 per Individual in Food/Drinks.

 

Stand Up Paddle & Hike (Full Day)

Location: Sly Park Recreation Area 

Group Maximum: 10

Highlights: Just one hour outside of Sacramento, Sly Park Recreation Area is a great destination for a day of exploring. We’ll spend the day canoeing across Jenkinson Lake and hiking on some of the 9 miles of trails that wind through thickly forested areas around the perimeter towards Park Creek Waterfall.

Trip includes: Trip Leaders, Transportation, and Equipment.

Team building (Add On)

Price: $25 Per Individual
Highlights: This is a 3-hour team-building session meant to foster collaboration and communication within your group. As an additional perk, it can be incorporated into any private trip.
Includes: Pre-trip meeting about goals, extra staff, and team-building props.

Post

Activity Levels

1–Easy Going

Designed to focus on the experience and not the journey. These trips will have a shorter duration of time for any physical activity, lower mileage, and most will be an excellent fit for the entire family. You do not need any previous experience to enjoy yourself on these trips thoroughly.

2–Active

Designed for the novice adventurer looking to learn more about the outdoors, these trips will ease you out of your comfort zone and teach you some of the essentials of what to do and how to do it to have fun in the wilderness. No experience is needed to sign up for these trips, but a basic fitness level will help make them more enjoyable.

3–Adventurous

Designed for the seasoned explorer and the daring novice, these trips offer advanced challenges for beginners. Participants may experience longer hours, higher mileage, greater elevations, rigorous difficulties, and the potential for higher levels of exertion.

4–Epic

Designed for the veteran outdoors person, these trips offer longer days, more miles, greater challenges, and higher exertion levels. As with all aspects of Peak Adventures, we invite novices on any of our trips. A high fitness level is encouraged to promote safety for all participants and staff.
